La Tannerie de la Boivre, an artisan tannery at Lavausseau, near Poitiers in western France, has announced that it will close down on September 30.

Director of the business, Yves Carbonnier, has told officials in Lavausseau that he will donate all of the tannery’s machinery to the town to allow a fully working tannery to be part of a local tourist attraction called La Cité des Tanneurs (City of Tanners), which reflects the industry’s long-standing links to the region.
