A report from a UK-based research firm has suggested China produced 4.5 billion leather shoes in 2014, which it says is 8.7% less than in 2013.

Reportbuyer says it exported 965 million pairs of leather shoes, 11.5% more than the year before, worth an average of $14.25 per pair.  It says the average value of a pair of imported shoes was $43.30.

The firm does not explain where the information is sourced from.

In Milan last week, Chen Zhanguang, the deputy general secretary of China Leather Industry Association, said the country exported 2.7 billion pairs of shoes in 2014, with a value of $54 billion, with leather shoes accounting for $14 billion of this revenue.
