Downturn in leather export values in two Asian countries

Figures for the month of July show declines in the value of leather and related exports in the month of July 2015.

Bangladesh’s Export Promotion Bureau reported the value of leather-sector exports at $94.6 million in July, a decline of 13.3% year on year. Finished leather’s contribution to this total was $37.3 million, which represents a fall of more than 40% compared to the figure for the same month in 2014.

In parallel, Pakistan’s leather industry reported the value of exports of leather and leather products at $90 million in July, a year-on-year decline of 4.25%. Finished leather’s contribution was just over $30 million, which is 15.8% down on the figure for July 2014.
