Zero Impact will mean 1,900 new trees this year, Gruppo Dani confirms

Gruppo Dani, the Italian tanning group that has said it will fund reforestation projects as it seeks to offset all its carbon emissions, has said the idea will lead to 1,900 new trees being planted in what remains of 2015.

Working a specialist partner, AzzeroC02, its will fund the planting of these trees at different sites in Italy. It has calculated that this will be enough to offset 2,000 tonnes of carbon emissions.

The Arzignano-based company made the announcement earlier in April at the launch of a new initiative it calls Zero Impact. Under Zero Impact, an exclusive group of high-end furniture brands will use Dani leather manufactured using a range of sustainable technologies and production practices that the company has spent ten years developing.

Furniture brands involved in the launch include Gamma, Living Divani and Désirée, but the communications manager for Gruppo Dani, Marta Fumei, has told leatherbiz that other companies, including German brand Rolf Benz, are preparing to bring Zero Impact collections to market later in the year.

“Zero Impact is just for certain partners,” Ms Fumei said. “They are all companies that are as sustainable as Gruppo Dani is. They have the same philosophy and the same mentality as we have. We view this as a way of giving them a competitive advantage.”
