Japanese leathergoods brand celebrates 80 years

Japanese leathergoods brand OHBA is targeting sales in North America as it celebrating its 80th anniversary.

Founded in 1935 by Mikio Ohba, the company is still family owned, with his sons Hiro and Kozo at the helm.

It is the exclusive supplier of leather school bags to the Imperial family and has won 58 Japanese Chamber of commerce awards.

The company said: “OHBA’s goal has been to introduce the world to the fine, traditional leather craftsmanship of Japan and now we are poised to do just that, by expanding on our European success and heading into the North American market.”
