Japanese car manufacturers made a record number of vehicles in the US. Across all brands, total production was 3.6 million vehicles, a 10% increase on the figure for 2012. The figures come from the Japan Automobile Manufacturers’ Association.

In making so many cars in US factories, investment by Toyota, Nissan, Honda and Mitsubishi in US-produced parts and materials was $57 billion.

More than 90% of the parts that go into Honda cars made in North America are produced in North America, the association said, while the corresponding figure for Nissan is 76% and that for Toyota is 71%.
