CNC president celebrates “unique expertise” of French tanners
The organisers of the APLF exhibition in Hong Kong marked France’s status as the focus country for 2015 by inviting the president of the French National Leather Council, the Conseil National du Cuir (CNC), Frank Boehly, to give a presentation on the industry there at the inaugural press conference.

Mr Boehly pointed out that the leather sector in France covers the entire supply chain, from high-quality livestock farming and hide collection all the way through to the production and retailing of luxury-label leathergoods.

He said around 8,000 businesses are involved in these activities in France, employing 70,000 people and turning over €15 billion a year, €7.8 billion of which comes into France as export revenues.

The country has 19 million head of cattle in its national herd and 6.5 million head of sheep and goats. Specialist techniques for tanning high-quality calfskin, lambskin and exotic leather were examples of what Mr Boehly called the French tanning sector’s “unique expertise”.
