A successful year for beef (and leather) in Paraguay

09/01/2015
Paraguay exported almost 380,000 tonnes of beef in 2014, which the South American country’s national service for animal quality and health (Senacsa) says puts it in the top six worldwide for beef export volumes.

Senacsa said that the biggest markets for Paraguayan beef in 2014 were, in order of volume, Russia, Chile and Brazil. Shipments of beef outside Paraguay brought in export earnings of more than $1.2 billion in the course of the year.

It went on to say that exports of by-products of the beef industry, including hides and finished leather, earned Paraguay $280 million last year. And while Senacsa did not break this fugure down any further, it pointed out that it represents an increase of 24% on the corresponding figure for 2013.
