Bangladesh sees decline in value of finished leather exports

Official figures from Bangladesh show that the country’s leather industry increased the value of its exports in the first four months of the current financial year (July-October 2014) by 6.1% compared to the same period last year, although exports of finished leather fell year on year.

Over the four month period this year, Bangladeshi producers of leather, leather footwear and leather accessories brought in export revenues of $383.6 million.

Finished leather contributed $143.4 million of this total, a decline of 10.6% compared to the first four months of last financial year. Exports of leather footwear, however, were up by 20.3% at $169.5 million, while shipments of leathergoods brought in $70.8 million, an increase of 17.3%.
