Low carbon leather helps Scottish Leather Group win prestigious award

Each year, the Energy Institute, a professional body for the energy industry in the UK, holds its awards ceremony to recognise individuals and organisations in the global energy industry for setting new standards of excellence and innovation in their daily activities.
Collecting the environmental award on behalf of Scottish Leather Group, environmental director, Dr Warren Bowden, said: “It is an honour for the Scottish Leather Group to be recognised in such prestigious and internationally respected company. We are immensely proud of our environmental credentials and innovations in manufacturing leather sustainably and absolutely delighted to receive this award from such an esteemed panel of judges.”
Scottish Leather Group secured the award for its low carbon leather. It classifies its leather as “low carbon” because the group has been running its own thermal energy plant at its Bridge of Weir wet-end tannery since 2010, taking what was previously waste sent straight to landfill and converting it into energy for heating the recycled water required in the manufacturing process.
