Rabobank says beef producers will continue to enjoy record prices
15/10/2014
Rabobank’s report predicted that sales for Brazilian producers in particular were likely to be strong in the second half of this year because China has lifted restrictions it imposed on Brazilian beef following an outbreak of bovine spongiform encephalopathy in the state of Paraná in 2012. In addition, Brazil is in a strong position to supply beef to Russia because competitor sources including the US, the European Union and Australia have imposed sanctions on Russia owing to its dispute with Ukraine.
On the situation of beef supply in the US, Rabobank confirmed that slaughter rates there remain low and said imports were making up for domestic shortages. It said imports from Australia have risen by 36% so far this year, while New Zealand, Canada and Mexico have all increased their shipments of beef to the US too, by 3%, 11% and 7% respectively.
