Dutch leather chemicals manufacturer Stahl will be one of the sponsors of a new conference on the future of footwear materials that will take place for the first time in Eindhoven in December.

Innovation and education institute SLEM is organising the new event, which it says will examine the material choices that footwear manufacturers are likely to have in the future.

The event, called the Future Footwear Materials Conference, will take place in Eindhoven on December 11 and SLEM has said it believes material suppliers, material engineers, designers, production managers, business development managers, project managers, software developers, entrepreneurs, technical engineers and manufacturing managers will benefit from attending.

In advance of the full programme, confirmed speakers include Alexander Schieke of Stahl, who will give a presentation on developments in performance coatings for leather.

“Leather has been the prime material for shoes for a long time,” SLEM said on announcing the event. “But in a world with a rapidly growing population and dwindling resources it is time to rethink what our footwear should be made of. Modern technology can help to use our resources wisely. New material developments and production techniques push the boundaries of what can be made.”
