Highly Commended tanneries pick up awards in Shanghai
In all, 45 tanneries from around the world were nominated for the 2014 Tannery of the Year awards, with nine finalists featuring in detailed reports in World Leather magazine over the course of the past year. Finalists travelled to Shanghai on September 3 to make formal presentations to an independent judging panel and to take part in the awards ceremony at a gala dinner the same evening.

Members of the judging panel were Paul Pearson from the International Council of Tanners, Dr Dietrich Tegtmeyer of the International Union of Leather Technologists and Chemists Societies, leadership and human resources consultant Kim Reid, Ivan Král from the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation and, as chairman, Steve Jesseph from leather, textile and apparel sector consultancy firm ICG.

Aside from global winner, Wollsdorf Leather, and the four other regional winners, four finalists won Highly Commended awards: JBS Itumbiara (Americas), Packer Leather (Asia excluding China), Henan Prosper (China) and Couro Azul (Europe).

Steve Jesseph (pictured) said afterwards that the competition had been of a very high standard and that the difference between the regional winners and the Highly Commended tanneries had been extremely narrow.

Highly Commended tanneries each received a trophy to take home and a place in the Tannery of the Year Hall of Fame, providing them with a message that reinforces their already excellent standing with their customers, their suppliers, their employees and their local communities.

We congratulate them on their success.
