Luxury group LVMH has issued a statment to express its sorrow at the death of former Louis Vuitton chief executive Yves Carcelle.

Mr Carcelle died on August 31 after a long illness.

He was the leader of the Louis Vuitton brand for more than 20 years, arriving as strategy director in 1989 and becoming chief executive a year later. He carried out this role until the end of 2012.

“Thanks to his vision, his energy and his exceptional strategic mind, Yves Carcelle made Louis Vuitton the top brand in the world in luxury and high-quality products,” the group said in the statement. “He was the main architect of Louis Vuitton’s global development, particularly in Asia.”
