Arzignano tannery closes its doors

04/08/2014
Local media in Vicenza in northern Italy have said that one of the tanneries in the province’s Arzignano cluster closed down at the start of August, unable to continue its activities because of financial problems.

The tannery concerned is Conceria Giada, a well known supplier of leather for furniture, leathergoods and the automotive aftermarket. Founded in 1977, the tannery belongs to the same group, A.Esse, as Conceria Sabrina, which founder, Callisto Dal Maso, set up in 1972.

Debts and falling revenues are reported as the reasons Conceria Giada has closed its doors.

Thirty-six workers are reported to be affected, but will receive payments for about a year thanks to a wage compensation scheme in place in Italy.
