If hide prices begin to go back up, tanners may not be too unhappy
Leatherbiz Weekly’s most recent Market Intelligence report into the leather pipeline says that sellers of hides and skins appear confident they have weathered recent falls in the price of raw materials and will soon be able to increase prices again.

The report suggests timing of a move like this could be good because tanners in Asia, traditionally, like to invest when the market is clearly on the rise. It says: “There is, traditionally, nothing more inviting for Asian tanners than a rising market.”

And if prices rise a bit and stay steady during negotiations over the price of finished leather for the coming fashion season, tanners in other parts of the world will be fairly happy too, the Market Intelligence report goes on to say, especially if, when the time comes to buy hides to fulfil the new orders, hide prices have adjusted downwards again.
