Italy’s tanners brought in more than €4 billion in exports last year

Italy’s tanning sector recorded a year-on-year increase of 9% in the value of its productionin 2013, with the 1,269 businesses involved producing leather worth more than €5.2 billion.

Exports increased by 8.6% to surpass €4 billion.

The industry employed almost 18,000 people in 2013, principally in the clusters in Arzignano, Santa Croce and Solofra.

Industry association UNIC released the figures at its annual general meeting in Milan at the end of June.
