Jonathan Muirhead takes over as president of COTANCE
At the 2014 general assembly of COTANCE, the leather industry’s representative body to the European Commission, the chairman of the Scottish Leather Group, Jonathan Muirhead, took over as the organisation’s president, with Rino Mastrotto of the Rino Mastrotto Group standing down.

At the meeting, which took place in Edinburgh on June 20, Mr Muirhead said he felt “very honoured and very privileged” to be elected president of COTANCE. He added: “The challenges we have as tanners in Scotland are exactly the same as those faced by our counterparts in Italy, Spain, Portugal and elsewhere in Europe. We are all in this together, and that’s why I am passionate about COTANCE.”

He paid tribute to Mr Mastrotto, whom he said he had got to know well in the previous two years, when Mr Muirhead acted as vice-president, and from whom he said he had learned a lot. He also paid tribute to Gustavo González Quijano, saying that the industry rarely acknowledged how much work the COTANCE general secretary does and rarely thanks him for it.
