German leathergoods forum to focus on CSR

The German Association of Leather Goods Retailers (BLE) is to hold it its annual forum in Offenbach, Germany, on May 27, expanding on the topic "Does the leather industry need a new social and environmental code of conduct?"

Jan Eggert, the Brussels-based director general of the Foreign Trade Association, will provide the keynote speech on social compliance standards in international supply chains.

Heike Scheuer, from the International Association Natural Textile Industry, will discuss the labels "natural leather" and "natural textiles" and whether they impart the idea of a socially responsible product to consumers.
