Successful partnership project allows Smit & Zoon to bring back Sulphirol WS
Dutch leather chemicals manufacturer Smit & Zoon has brought to a successful conclusion a project to relaunch its lanolin-based fatliquor Sulphirol WS.

The product has a strong softening effect and gives leather a warm, spongy feel, but Smit & Zoon stopped offering it to customers in 2013 because it began to experience difficulty in sourcing enough natural lanolin, which comes from sheep’s wool, to meet its quality standards.

Since then, it has been working with a partner company that makes pharmaceuticals, cosmetics and animal feed to reintroduce Sulphirol WS. An international company that processes thousands of tonnes of wool grease every year, this partner has been able to help Smit & Zoon develop a synthetic lanolin product that produces leathers with the same appearance, smell and properties as the natural product.
