Macau may open up Chinese business for US beef

The event took the form of a barbecue, to which meat buyers, chefs and other food professionals were invited. Many of the guests represent the large hotels and casinos that attract an estimated 30 million visitors to Macau each year.
Myron Danner, a rancher and cattle feeder from Burwell, Nebraska, who helped run the promotion, said afterwards: “I looked down the list of the people that were in attendance and it was the players, the people that import the beef and the people that distribute it out to the restaurants. A lot of the restaurants sent their executive chefs.”
He said that although US beef has been “locked out” of mainland China following cases of bovine spongiform encephalopathy in 2003, he had hopes that the situation may change soon and he said placing high-quality US beef in Macau was a good way of bringing the product to the attention of Chinese buyers.
