Finnish tanner makes acquisition

19/12/2013
Finnish tanner Kokkolan Nahka Oy has acquired a long-time contract tanning partner, Geson Oy. The move means Kokkolan has taken over Geson’s business assets, including buildings, and machinery.

For a number of years, Geson carried out unhairing and wet-end processes for Kokkolan. Both tanneries are in western Finland. Kokkolan Nahka specialises in the production of elk and reindeer leather for the footwear and clothing industries. Geson’s specialism is in vegetable-tanned leather.

Kokkolan said on making the announcement that it expects the acquisition to help it increase the quality of its products and service, and expand its capacity.

Geson’s managing director, Kurt Gustavsson, will stay in his position to oversee the acquisition and help make the transition as smooth as possible.
