BASF unveils trend inspiration for spring-summer 2015

Sculpted, BASF has explained, uses a “refined but casual look with minimalistic touches that show a natural, organic beauty that reminisces the smooth lines of a sculpture”. Simplicity, purity and discretion underlie the theme to mirror “the highest category of luxury and refinement”. In this trend, velvet, suede and chamois are used along with soft, dusty colours such as off-white, white combined with beige, pale yellows and whitish blues, as well as wheat yellows combined with soft, stone greys.
Under the Playful theme, the ideas the company has pointed to are “pure relaxation and entertainment, with a touch of retro-pop”. The palette includes turquoise, lime green, mauve, amber orange, dark tiles with pinkish tints and ranges of dusty blues. Here, tanneries are encouraged to use in their leathers textures and materials that “mimic ripples and glints on the surface of a pool”, along with stripes and the use of floral prints.
Fire completes the trilogy of leather colours and textures for the season, according to BASF, and is “immersed in an atmosphere of undeniable luxury”. Refined shades combined with primitive materials offer “an elegant, sensual touch”. Underlying this theme is an emphasis on “the beauty of imperfection”. For tanners, BASF has suggested, this can translate into silk textures with a cracked look, satins and moiré patterns on their leathers. Materials that show the passing of time with defects and imperfections “to induce an emotional, intimate response” are also among the suggestions, as are velvety leather, oiled leather, patinas, stained surfaces and laser-cut suede. Colour palettes are deeper here, with burgundies, pale violets and fuchsias on leathers, with a worn, aged look, or metallic touch of pink gold and copper tones.
The company recommends products such as its range of Basyntan and Relugan products, its Densodrin water-repellent agents and Astacin finishing products to achieve the desired effects.
