Automotive seating supplier Lear is opening a seating plant in Iasi, Romania, in January 2014 after being “encouraged by the dedication” of employees in the company’s three factories in the country.

Serving European automotive manufacturers, Lear's new facility will employ approximately 1,500 people, with an emphasis on seating surface materials including cutting and sewing capability.

"With Lear's continued growth, we are pleased to locate our new plant in Iasi," said Gideon Jewel, Lear's President for Seating in Europe and Africa. "We also appreciate the cooperation of all involved as Lear adds a fourth facility in Romania."

Lear is headquartered in Michigan, US, and employs113,000 employees in 36 countries.
