Economist predicts positive year ahead for Paraguayan livestock industry

27/11/2013
A prominent economist in Paraguay has said 2014 is shaping up to be a good year for the cattle industry in the South American country. Pablo González, who heads up the livestock portfolio for Paraguay’s Banco Regional, recently told local media that there had been a new air of enthusiasm in the sector since the start of the second half of 2013.

Mr González said this coincided with the country being declared free of foot and mouth disease and the re-opening of the Chilean market for Paraguayan beef.

He added that, since July, his bank has received requests for finance for projects covering practically every aspect of the livestock industry, from the purchase of land for pasture to the sourcing of cattle.
