Brazilian industry association wants greater awareness of leather law

25/11/2013
Brazilian tanning industry association CICB helped organise the twentieth national congress for leather technicians and chemists on November 20 and 21.

At the event, CICB executive president, José Fernando Bello, gave a presentation on the work his organisation has done in 2013 to increase awareness across Brazil of existing legislation that seeks to protect the good name of leather.

A law that has been in place since 1965 prohibits manufacturers of synthetic materials from using the word ‘leather’ in their product names. Mr Bello highlighted a series of actions that CICB has been involved in this year to make manufacturers, retailers, consumers and the media more aware of the law and its possible consequences.
