A specialist in ostriches, cayman, snakes and fish, the company impressed judges with its chrome-free fish leathers tanned using of a blend of biodegradable acrylic resins, polymers, synthetics and vegetable tannins.
The company also won ‘best exotic leather’ at the APFL fair in Hong Kong for its fresh colours and finishes for pirarucu skin.
Technical director Eduardo Filgueiras said: "Sustainability, technology and innovation are part of our corporate values.” Nearly all the skins are by-products of the food industry, except the piton, which is imported from Indonesia.
The leathers come from sustainably managed farms regulated by the Brazilian Institute of Environment and Renewable Natural Resources. Fish skins expand through a leather welding technique creating seamless panels for small skins.
Exports began in 2005 and now account for a third of sales, according to financial director Paulo Amaury, with European luxury houses among its customers.
