Hermes tests European appetite for Chinese brand

The first Shang Xia store outside China has opened in Paris as its owner, leathergoods group Hermes, tests demand for its handcrafted products.

It hopes the location, just metres away from a Hermes boutique, will help lift its profile among European buyers, as well as the Chinese tourists who visit the French capital each year.

Hermes has spent more than EUR 10 million a year on Shang Xia since its inception in 2008.

In July, Taiwanese luxury shoe brand Stella also announced plans to open its first European store in Paris.
