A total of 1,424 companies exhibited at the three fairs this year, 9% more than last year.
According to organisers, the Chinese leather, footwear and leathergoods sectors need to import $7 billion of leather, components and chemicals to keep their production lines moving and maintain their exports.
The Turkish Pavilion at ACLE grew 22% on last year, when 60 exhibitors took part. Brazil also saw an increase, with 24 companies under the banner of the Centre for Brazilian Tanning Industries (CICB).
Perrine Ardouin, event director of the three shows, said the leather sector is in “good shape”. “With signs that the US is growing again and the official view of the European Central Bank that the eurozone is now out of recession, these indicators are positive for an upturn in Chinese exports such as footwear and leathergoods,” she added.
