China’s Ministry of Agriculture has confirmed an outbreak of cattle disease foot and mouth in Yunnan Province in the south-west of the country.

A village in Shangri-La County reported on June 3 that 283 head of cattle had shown signs of the disease. Local authorities have sealed off and sterilised an infected area where 1,767 head of cattle have been culled, according to state media agency Xinhua.

At the beginning of May, 16 cattle in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region were suspected of having the disease, so authorities culled 239 head to prevent it from spreading.
