Leathergoods push Michael Kors’ European sales up 97%

The US brand, owned by fashion designer Michael Kors, said it will double its stores in the continent and plans to increase its leathergoods offering.
"Given how strongly our brand has performed in the market, how well it resonates with European consumers, we have concluded the retail store growth potential is greater than the 100 locations we initially targeted,” its chief executive, John Idol, said on a conference call.
Sales in Europe increased to $73.1 million in the fourth quarter. Sales in the US and Canada rose 52% to $516.9 million. Kors expects to open 50 stores in North America and 40 in Europe over the coming year.
