Record slaughter for Paraguay in April

20/05/2013
Paraguay registered a record level of cattle slaughter in April 2013. In the course of the month, abattoirs across the country slaughtered 153,191 head of cattle.

The previous record was 147,500 head, registered in June 2010.

For the first four months of this year, Paraguay has recorded a slaughter figure of 516,103 head. This represents an increase of 65% compared to the same period in 2012, when Paraguay was still seriously affected by restrictions imposed after an outbreak of foot and mouth disease in September 2011.

Some restrictions are still in place, but the government has said it hopes to have a completely clear bill of health by September 2013.
