Muirhead and Pittards debut innovation at aviation expo
11/04/2013
Muirhead is introducing a lightweight leather product for the aviation sector. ‘Voyager’ is 30% lighter than standard aviation leather, yet retains the performance, durability, safety criteria and 1mm thickness for airline interiors, said the company. It aims to deliver fuel and cost savings through its reduced weight.
The company has recently been chosen to supply to a new fleet of Virgin Atlantic planes, as well as KLM World Business.
Pittards is showing Cloud9, which has been designed specifically for airline upholstery. It uses the company’s WR100X and Firebloc II leather technologies, and is engineered to resist water, oil and stains while providing the advanced flame retardant properties required by the industry.
Separately, Pittards has received a £5 million finance package from UK bank Lloyds to fund the expansion of its export business. Amy Wilson, relationship director at Lloyds Bank Commercial Banking, said: “Pittards has a global reputation as a leather and leathergoods specialist and produces high-quality products for its international customer base. Businesses such as Pittards are fundamental contributors in our continuing economic recovery.”
