What Tannery of the Year is about
22/03/2013
World Trades Publishing, publisher of World Leather magazine, launched Tannery of the Year in 2009, having planned the initiative since the World Leather Forum in Paris in 2007. The clear message from the Paris event was that the leather industry, often very reticent in the wake of unfair criticism and inaccurate reporting in mainstream media, has a lot to be proud of and a huge number of positive stories to tell. World Leather agreed and still feels strongly that these stories deserve to be told.
Thanks to the enthusiastic response of tanners around the world and the support of sponsors BASF, Buckman and Lanxess, we now have a series of 29 in-depth reports (around 5,000 words each) that show tanners in all parts of the globe to be organisations that care about the environment, look after their workforces, take seriously their responsibilities for sharing resources with their communities, meet their obligations to local and national government, are committed to strong, positive relationships with customers, colleagues and suppliers, and apply a spirit of entrepreneurship and innovation to making beautiful leather.
The third programme will reach its conclusion on Monday, March 25 in Hong Kong, when nine finalists from Africa, the Americas, Asia excluding China, China and Europe, will make presentations on their businesses to an independent panel of judges, with the results being announced that evening at a special Gala Dinner and awards presentation in the Bauhinia Suite in the Hong Kong Conference and Exhibition Centre.
Everyone in the industry is welcome to attend the Gala Dinner, but places are limited. Details and booking information are available at this link: Tannery of the Year 2013 Gala Dinner.
