Chinese favour French accessories for gift giving
12/03/2013
The recently published Hurun report, a survey of wealthy Chinese, ranks the most popular presents and a large percentage of these were leathergoods brands. French companies dominate the list with accessories from handbags to belts the top choices.
The top 10 for men include Hermes, Chanel, Gucci, Montblanc, Dior and Burberry; while for women, the order is Chanel, LV, Montblanc, Gucci, Prada, Dior and Burberry.
The government’s recently imposed austerity drive affected some companies. The £195-a-bottle Moutai, a Chinese liquor, slipped from fifth to 13th, and watchmaker Rolex fell off the list.
Hurun report founder Rupert Hoogewerf said: “This year, there is a clear trend towards gifting more modestly priced top luxury goods.”
