New Zealand reports decline in sheep numbers

02/01/2013
Reports from New Zealand put the size of the country’s sheep herd at the end of 2012 at 31.2 million head.

This figure is flat in comparison to 2012, but over the last five years, the herd has decreased in size by 19%.

Industry sources have blamed poor returns for sheep farmers and an increase in demand for land for dairy cattle for the decline.
