Nepal: leather expo targets 150,000 visitors

12/12/2012
The Leather Footwear and Goods Manufacturers Association of Nepal is expecting 150,000 visitors at the 9th Leather Goods & Footwear Expo in the capital in December, up from the estimated 90,000 who visited last year’s event.

Local reports quote the president of the association, Hom Nath Upadhyay, as saying the price of leathergoods in Nepal has risen 20% to 25% this year, due to the rising price of law materials, the strengthening of the dollar against the Nepali rupee and the rise in labour costs.

The expo will unite domestic footwear companies, producers of raw materials, suppliers and retailers, and is scheduled for December 24 to 30.
