Around 200 acres of land have been cleared in the Indian state of Uttah Pradesh (UP) in preparation for a leather cluster that will be built on the site.

The cluster in Kanpur is to receive central government funds of Rs70 crore ($12.8 million), according to local reports, which will help to establish an effluent plant and infrastructure.

Speaking to the Times of India, UP State Industrial Development Council managing director Manoj Singh said: "We have now instructed the consultant to prepare a detailed report which will be submitted to the government within the next three months."

A delegation of leather technology experts from Italy is due to visit the site in December. "Italian experts have agreed to help in setting up of leather clusters using latest technology in the state," said infrastructure and industrial development commissioner Anil Kumar Gupta.
