Tata asks Zambia for 500,000 goat hides per year

Golden Valley Agriculture Research Trust (GART) director Stephen Muliokela confirmed in an interview in Choma that officials from Tata International were at the institute in Chisamba asking for the hides.
“We have had enquiries from Tata International, officials actually came here asking us to supply them with 500, 000 goat skins every year to be used in as leather seats in (Mercedes) Benz and Tata vehicles. It was an exciting enquiry and they visited us several times. This just tells you of how much a goat which is kept on social purposes has become so valuable. So this is an opportunity for diversification into commercial goat rearing,” Dr Muliokela said.
