Kathmandu leather expo supports domestic industry
The eighth Leather and Footwear Expo began in Kathmandu on 20 December, 2011. The Leather Footwear and Goods Manufacturers Association of Nepal said that the expo was organised to help promote exports.
Around 52 stalls of leather footwear are on show at the expo, which runs till December 25. The expo features the slogan: ‘Use of Nepali brand: An honour to domestic industry’.
The expo’s organisers have said that they have expected around one million visitors. According to chairman of the association, Hom Nath Upadhyay, 50 different companies in the country have been manufacturing 106 million pairs of shoes annually.
