August exports up for New Zealand meat and hides

New Zealand’s overseas trade figures for August 2011 show an increase of 32% in meat exports compared to August 2010 and of 33% in the value of hides and skins.

The president of an organisation called Federated Farmers, Bruce Wills, told local media: “August and September traditionally have the lowest volumes of agricultural exports for the year. Most of our meat is exported between December and May. When you consider the extremely high exchange rates throughout August, with the New Zealand dollar peaking at $US0.88, this is an even greater result for our primary industries.”
