Tata International announces Ethiopia tannery project

26/04/2011
Indian industrial group Tata International has said it plans to set up a new tannery and leathergoods manufacturing facility in Ethiopia. It said it was attracted to the good access to raw material Ethiopia can offer.

Executive director, O.K. Kaul, confirmed to local media that this would represent a first move outside India for Tata International’s leather-making division. The addition of a new tannery in Ethiopia, plus expansion of its Indian tanneries, located in Madhya Pradesh and Tamil Nadu states, would bring its production capacity to six million square-feet per month, he said, an increase of 50% on the company’s current capacity.
