Lotus to launch London store

25/01/2011

Malaysian-owned car manufacturer, Lotus, has announced a move into clothing and accessories with plans for a London store by the end of 2011. The company will also launch an online store in February to coincide with London Fashion Week’s menswear day.

Lotus Original’s first collection will include leathergoods, luxury knitwear and performance outerwear, the firm said.

The company is hoping that merchandising will bring some extra funds into the business, which reported a loss of £12m in 2010.

A statement from the Hethel-based firm said: “The launch of the new range is a natural step in the repositioning of Lotus as a lifestyle brand.”

Wiebke Bauer, Lotus’ director of licensing and merchandising, said: “Our goal with the Lotus Originals concept was to create a range of apparel and accessories that really capture the true spirit of our iconic British brand.

“Lotus Originals isn’t just for traditional car enthusiasts... we hope that it will appeal to a much broader audience.”

The Lotus range will include leathergoods including luggage and driving gloves, polo shirts and T-shirts, vintage Lotus logos and designs relating to famous racing victories.
