Tata International starts shoe chain
India-based Tannery of the Year finalist Tata International has launched a footwear retail chain called Tashi. It will initially open six Tashi stores in Mumbai, New Delhi and Chandigarh, and hopes to have 20 stores running within a year.
Speaking at the brand launch, vice president of retail at Tata International, Deepak Deshpande, said: “We are pleased to announce the launch of Tashi, our multi-brand footwear and accessories retail chain and the opening of the very first store in Mumbai.
“Tashi will redefine the branded footwear retail space and will provide the Indian customer with a range of globally designed footwear and accessories on an international store ambience coupled with excellent customer service.”
Tata International executive director, Mr O Kaul, told the Press Trust of India: "We supply leather and footwear to leading global brands in the world. However, we are starting our retail venture in India since it is a huge footwear market, estimated to be Rs16,000 crore [$3.6 billion] at present."
