BSLT scholarship on offer in Arzignano
Acque del Chiampo, one of the largest common effluent treatment plants in Europe, has introduced a scholarship worth EUR 10,000 for an outstanding applicant from the State Technical Industrial Institute (ITIS) Galileo Galilei in Arzignano, Italy, to study a course of their choice at The University of Northampton’s British School of Leather Technology (BSLT).
The announcement came at an event held at the institute in March. Presentations were made by a panel of the parties involved, including Dr Jeffry Guthrie-Strachan, international development manager at the BSLT; Renzo Marcigaglia, president of Acque del Chiampo; Giorgio Gentilin, president of environmental organisation ATO Valle del Chiampo; Morena Martini, head of schools for Vicenza Province; Valter Peretti, president of the tanners’ association in Vicenza; and Eleonora Schiavo, principal of ITIS Galileo Galilei. Proceedings were brought to a close on a high note with a speech by Stefan Schwoch, former star from the local football team, Vicenza Calcio.
This bursary continues to cement the relationship between Northampton and Arzignano as staff from BSLT has been visiting ITIS Galileo Galilei annually since 2002. In September 2009, BSLT and the Leathersellers Company, one of the ancient Livery Companies of the City of London founded by Royal Charter in 1444, were hosted on a tour of the Arzignano leather area by Italian industry bodies AICC and Assomac. The tour included a visit to ITIS Galileo Galilei, Acque del Chiampo, the TFL Academy, Erretre and Duma, a part of the Mastrotto Group.
