Argentina: meat and leather exporters at odds over Europe

03/11/2009

Argentina’s meat and leather industries have taken different approaches to a summit between the trading blocks of Mercosur and the European Union.

In the build-up to the meeting in Lisbon (November 4–6) between representatives of different industries from both continents, Argentina’s leather and footwear companies said they were cautious about allowing European exporters easier access to their domestic market.

Representatives of the beef industry, however, said they were in favour of greater openness, with some even arguing for duty-free access both ways.
