Brazilian beef’s China concerns come after record export year

Brazilian beef industry association Abiec has said its member companies are concerned about the effects the Coronavirus outbreak may have on their business with China.

In recent comments, Abiec president, Antônio Camardelli, said the organisation was monitoring the situation every day and said member companies understood that the outbreak was something the Brazilian beef industry ought to keep an eye on.

He explained that Brazilian beef achieved record exports in 2019, in volume and in value, shipping more than 1.8 million tonnes of beef to markets overseas and bringing in export revenues of almost $7.6 billion.

Of these totals, exports to China contributed 26.7% of the volume and 35.4% of the value.
