BMW promotes olive leather in CES design

The BMW Group is promoting olive-tanned leather as part of its “mobility experience of the future” at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas (7 to 10 January).

It claims its BMW i3 underwent a complete transformation so that its interior now has "the relaxed feel of a boutique hotel".

It said: “The vehicle is underpinned by a holistic approach to making responsible use of resources, encompassing the powertrain with zero local emissions, the careful selection of materials and the production processes involved.

“Fabrics containing recycled materials therefore come together with certified wood and olive-tanned leather, while the floor mats are made from recyclable materials that can be fed back into the materials cycle, as per circular economy principles.”

The group’s UK division has reported 234,637 BMW and MINI vehicle registrations in 2019 with one in 10 UK new car customers selecting a BMW Group vehicle.

Graeme Grieve, CEO of BMW Group UK, said: “Although the 2020 economic outlook remains challenging, we will be further strengthening our product range with a particular focus on broadening customer appeal of our fully-electric and plug-in hybrid models.”
