Leather Pipeline: new trigger needed to fire consumer interest in leather

According to the report, which is available in full here, the old view that every piece of raw material will, in time, end up in the hands of tanners to be made into leather no longer holds true. It says that even a decline in hide prices has failed to fuel increased interest in leather among penny-pinching finished product brands and manufacturers, and warns that a situation we have seen in the recent past of sheep and lambskins being allowed to go to waste may begin to occur with bovine raw material too.
To compound this problem, the report says the volume and size of hides are likely to increase in 2018.
What’s not clear is the kind of trigger that could do the trick.
