Messe Frankfurt to launch Leatherworld Paris event in 2018

Exhibition organiser Messe Frankfurt has announced that it will inaugurate a new leather industry event in 2018 with a version of its Leatherworld event launching in Paris in September.

The company launched Leatherworld in Dubai in 2015 and ran the Middle East show again in 2016 and 2017.

Dates for the new Paris exhibition will be September 17-20, co-located with the organiser’s existing events: Texworld, Apparel Sourcing, Shawls & Scarves, Texworld Denim and Avantex Paris. These shows typically take place at the same time as Première Vision Paris, which already has PV Leather (the new name for Le Cuir à Paris).

Commentators sum up the differences between Texworld and Première Vision by saying that the former brings many exhibitors from lower-cost manufacturing countries (mostly in Asia), while the latter prefers to concentrate on the higher-end of the market.

On making the announcement, Messe Frankfurt president, Michael Scherpe, said that the company always seeks “to listen to the market” and that it had become clear to him and his colleagues that adding a leather component to the mix of materials buyers can view at its Paris exhibitions would be a popular idea. He said a lot of visitors know that the countries represented among the exhibitors at Texworld and the parallel shows are also a good source of leather and leathergoods.

He said their discussions with exhibitor groups in countries such as Pakistan, India and China had also led to specific requests for Messe Frankfurt to find a niche specifically for leather-sector countries.
